Questions people ask before they try it

Short answers on what you get, what it costs and where your model goes. If yours is not here, ask on the contact page and a person replies.

The basics

What is Udraft 3D, in one sentence?

It turns a 3D model (Revit, IFC, DWG, Navisworks or a point cloud) into one self-contained HTML file that anyone can open in a browser, with nothing to install, no account and no internet connection.

What exactly do I get back?

A single .html file. The geometry, the element properties and the viewer itself are all inside it. There is no link to a server and nothing hosted anywhere: the file is the deliverable, and it keeps working after your project account, your subscription or Udraft itself is gone.

Does the person I send it to need an account, a plugin or a connection?

No to all three. They double-click the file and it opens in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari on a laptop, a tablet or a phone. It works with the internet switched off, and it makes no calls to Udraft or anyone else while it is open. The interface follows their browser language across English, Portuguese, Spanish, German, French and Italian.

What can they do in the viewer?
  • Orbit, pan and zoom; select any element and read its category, type and properties.
  • Measure distances, angles and diameters, with snapping to corners and edges.
  • Cut sections with a section box, show one level at a time, and find their way on a plan minimap.
  • Walk through at eye height, and jump to views you saved for them.
  • Pin comments and markups on the model and export them as a report or a spreadsheet to send back to you.
  • Switch between a light and a dark background, hide and isolate categories, and search.
How big is the file?

It depends on the model. The geometry is compressed, so a typical building comes out at a few megabytes and emails without trouble. A whole coordinated model at full detail can be a lot larger; publish a filtered view or split it by discipline if the file needs to stay small.

Is it only for buildings?

No. Infrastructure, survey surfaces, site linework and scans all go through the same pipeline: bridges, roads and point clouds are among the examples in the guides.

Formats and limits

Which formats can I upload?
  • Free to try, no account: IFC, DXF, and the point-cloud formats E57, LAS, LAZ, PTS and XYZ.
  • With tokens: Revit (.rvt, or a .zip of a host model with its links), DWG, and Navisworks .nwc.

The formats page has the detail on each, and what to send instead for the rest.

Which Revit versions are supported?

Files saved by any Revit release up to 2027. A file from an older release is upgraded on the way through, as Revit itself would do on opening it. A file saved by a release newer than our newest cloud engine is refused with a message rather than mangled.

Can I upload a Revit model with its links?

Yes. Put the host model and its linked .rvt files in one .zip and upload that. It is priced as one Revit creation, and the links appear in the viewer as they do in the host.

Can I use an .nwd? What about .nwf?

Yes, through the Navisworks add-in: open the .nwd (or the .nwf with its linked files) in Navisworks Manage or Simulate and publish from the Udraft tab, since Navisworks has already read it. The website upload takes .nwc only: a published .nwd is usually locked by the publisher, so it cannot be read outside Navisworks, and an .nwf holds no geometry, only pointers to other files. Without the add-in, export an .nwc per discipline and upload that.

What about .rcs and .rcp point clouds, SketchUp, Rhino or ArchiCAD?
  • .rcs / .rcp are always derived from a scan: send the surveyor's original .e57 or .las.
  • SketchUp and Rhino: export IFC or DXF.
  • ArchiCAD: export IFC.
What does a DWG turn into?

Layers, linework (lines, polylines, arcs and splines) and mesh or face surfaces, with each layer selectable in the viewer. The drawing is read by AutoCAD in Autodesk's cloud and handed to the same reader as a DXF, so a DXF you export yourself gives the same result for free.

How many points does a scan keep?

Scans are thinned to about 500,000 points spread evenly through the cloud, which keeps the file small and the viewer fast on a phone. Colour comes through where the scan has it; otherwise intensity or elevation shading is used.

Is there a file size limit?

Yes, per file:

FormatSigned in with tokensFree tier
Revit, DWG, Navisworks, DXF250 MB75 MB (DXF only)
IFC and point clouds150 MB45 MB

IFC and point clouds are converted on our own server and need more memory per megabyte, which is why their cap is lower. The free tier is limited to five creations a day per address.

How long does it take?

About a minute for most models; large Revit or Navisworks files can take several. The website converts one model at a time, so if someone is ahead of you the page shows your place in the queue and the expected wait. Creating through the Revit add-in runs on your own PC and never queues.

Trying it free

What is free?

IFC, DXF and point clouds convert free with no account, for evaluation. The free file is watermarked and has measuring and the review tools locked, so you can judge the viewer but not deliver it to a client. Revit, DWG and Navisworks cost us money on every creation, so they need an account with tokens; if you want to see the output first, ask for a free trial and we put trial tokens on your account.

Once I have tokens, are IFC and point clouds still free?

No. A signed-in account with tokens is charged 50 tokens for an open format and gets the full, clean viewer with nothing locked. The free path stays available if you sign out.

What does the estimate mean?

Before a creation starts, the page shows the tokens it will cost and asks you to acknowledge it. A creation is charged what it actually uses, never more than that estimate, and a creation that fails is not charged at all.

Tokens, packs and memberships

What is a token, and what does a creation cost?

A token is prepaid credit worth about ten cents that never turns back into money. Creations are priced by format:

FormatTokens
IFC, DXF, point cloud50
DWG80
Revit (.rvt or .zip)100 through the website, 70 through the add-in
Navisworks (.nwc)150

DWG, Revit and Navisworks run through Autodesk's cloud and are metered by processing time; the figures above are the minimums, and the estimate shown before you start is the ceiling. Full details on the pricing page.

Do tokens expire?

Purchased packs never expire. The tokens that come with a membership month end with that month.

What are the packs?

Four, and the bigger the pack the cheaper the token: Starter (150 tokens, A$17), Studio (720, A$71), Office (4,200, A$341) and Building (15,000, A$1,088). Studio and above also unlock Navisworks creation and the freehand sketch and kept-dimension tools; Office and above put your logo on every viewer. Prices are in Australian dollars before GST.

What are the memberships?

Monthly, renewed automatically until you cancel, and every tier includes the Revit add-in: Solo (900 tokens, A$80 a month), Team (3,200, A$251), Pro (8,000, A$521) and Enterprise (20,000, A$1,160). Team and above add Navisworks, the sketch and dimension tools, and pooled tokens across everyone on your email domain; Pro and above add your logo. Members buy top-up packs at their membership's per-token rate, or the public price when that is lower.

What happens when the month's tokens run out?

Either buy a top-up pack at your member rate, or switch on pay-as-you-go on the Membership page. With pay-as-you-go you approve a PayPal payment method once; from then on a creation that needs more than you hold simply goes ahead, and the extra tokens used during the month are charged in one transaction at the end of it, on the same day as the renewal, at your member rate. It is capped at your monthly allowance, unused credit is never charged, and you can switch it off at any time.

Can I upgrade mid-month?

Yes. You pay only the difference between the two tiers for the days left in the current month, the new tier's tokens are added at once, and your renewal date does not move.

Can I cancel?

At any time, on the Membership page or inside PayPal. Cancelling stops future charges; the month already paid for runs to its end.

How do I pay, and is GST included?

Through PayPal, with a PayPal balance or a card. Prices are in Australian dollars and shown before GST; Australian customers have 10% GST added at checkout and receive a tax invoice for every purchase, and customers elsewhere pay no GST. Invoices are under Account, Invoices, ready to print or forward.

Are purchases refundable?

Tokens and memberships are not refundable except where the law requires it, including under the Australian Consumer Law. What protects you day to day is that a creation is never charged more than its estimate and a failed one is free.

Can my team share tokens?

Yes, on Team and above. The company admin sets up the company on your email domain, colleagues create accounts on that domain, and their paid creations draw on the admin's balance, with usage shown per person.

The Revit add-in

What does the add-in do, and who gets it?

It is included with every membership. It exports the current 3D view from inside Revit, on your own PC: the model never leaves the machine, and the only thing sent out is a small token check. A creation through the add-in is 70 tokens instead of 100, because Autodesk's cloud is not involved.

Which Revit versions does it run in?

Revit 2027 today. Tell us on the contact page if you need another release.

How do I install it and sign in?

Install it from the Autodesk App Store (search for Udraft 3D), or ask us for the installer. In Revit, click Account on the Udraft tab: the add-in shows a short code and opens the website, you approve the code while signed in, and the machine is paired. Paired devices are listed on your Security page and can be revoked at any time; none of them ever holds your password.

Security and privacy

Where does my model go when I upload it?

To Udraft's server, where it is converted and deleted. Revit, DWG and Navisworks files are additionally processed by Autodesk's cloud service under Udraft's account, and deleted there afterwards. The finished viewer waits up to two hours for you to download it and is deleted the moment you do. The security page sets out each step.

I am under an NDA. Can I still use it?

Use the Revit add-in: the model is processed inside Revit on your own PC and is never transmitted. For other formats, the upload path above applies, with the short retention described.

Does the viewer file report back to you?

No. It is a static file: it makes no network requests, contains no analytics and does not know when or where it is opened.

Can I put my own logo on the viewer?

Yes, with the Office or Building pack, or the Pro and Enterprise memberships. Upload the logo once under Account and it replaces the Udraft mark on every viewer you create from then on.

How are accounts protected?

Every account uses a password and a second factor from an authenticator app. Card details never touch our server: payments are made at PayPal.

When something goes wrong

The viewer opens to a blank page.

The viewer needs WebGL 2, which every current browser has: Chrome or Edge 103 and later, Firefox 113 and later, Safari 16.4 and later. An old corporate browser, or one with hardware acceleration switched off, is the usual cause.

My file was refused.

The page tells you why: a format the converter does not read (with what to send instead), a file above the size limit for its format, or a Revit file newer than our engines. Trim the model or split it by discipline and try again.

The estimate seems high.

The estimate is a ceiling, not the price: you are charged what the creation actually uses. Large Revit and Navisworks files are metered by processing time, so a heavy model or one with many links costs more than a small one.
